Boogie Beat Music & Movement was born in the year 2000 in the beautiful town of Cheddar, Somerset. It all began when two creative and passionate women, Nicky and Lisa, spotted a gap in the market. They noticed there weren’t many local classes combining traditional stories, music, and dance—something they believed could deeply enrich children’s lives.
As young mums themselves, they started running sessions on Saturday mornings to fit around their families. These classes quickly captured the hearts of local families, and it wasn’t long before Boogie Beat became the talk of the town. As their own children grew, Nicky and Lisa expanded into weekday sessions, which became incredibly popular.
Lisa, with her musical background, began composing original songs for the sessions. Nicky, drawing on her experience in dance, brought the music to life through movement and choreography. And so, Boogie Beat Music & Movement was truly born.
From Local Roots to National Growth
For nine wonderful years, Nicky and Lisa ran Boogie Beat as a duo. Then, they discovered the concept of franchising—a turning point that allowed the brand to blossom across the country over the next 11 years. In 2015, another chapter began when Hannah, the current owner, came across Boogie Beat while exploring career options that would better fit around her children after a career in retail management.
Having attended similar classes with her children, Hannah was immediately drawn to the magical combination of music, movement, and storytelling. After experiencing a Discovery Day, she knew Boogie Beat was the right fit and soon launched her own franchise in Aldershot. At the time, Boogie Beat had around 11 franchisees.
Expanding into Education & Communities
Boogie Beat didn’t stop at parent-and-child sessions. The team soon began running early years workshops, bringing the joy of Boogie Beat into preschools, nurseries, and primary schools. The sessions’ format and engaging style quickly became a favourite among educators and children alike.
Next came a particularly heartwarming development—intergenerational classes, where Boogie Beat brought together older and younger generations. These sessions are truly magical, filled with joy, song, movement, and above all, connection. Seeing the smiles and hearing the laughter during these classes was a powerful reminder of how music and movement can unite us all.
Pivoting Through the Pandemic
Then came COVID-19. Like many businesses, Boogie Beat faced an uncertain future. But within days, they adapted. Live sessions were streamed on Facebook, drawing hundreds—sometimes thousands—of families from across the UK. These sessions provided joy, structure, and a touch of normality during a strange time.
Soon after, the team introduced Zoom classes, continuing both community and early years sessions virtually. When restrictions lifted, in-person classes resumed with some changes—visors, limited equipment use, and lots of creativity to keep everyone safe.
It was during this time that Boogie Beat Babies launched—a new class tailored for babies and their carers, especially important as many traditional baby groups had yet to reopen. These sessions quickly grew in popularity and became a much-loved part of the Boogie Beat family.
A New Era: Growth, Recognition, and the Future
In 2022, Hannah took over the reins of Boogie Beat. She’s since worked tirelessly on developing the brand, launching a new website, strengthening marketing, and supporting a growing team. As of today, Boogie Beat boasts 19 franchises across the UK.
The hard work has not gone unnoticed. Boogie Beat proudly received:
