When I first met the twins, S and L, at Pinocchio’s S-Bank nursery in the junior room, they were just around two years old. The very first time they saw me sitting there with Giggles the Boogie Beat Monkey, they arrived from another room, looked at me, looked at Giggles—and burst into tears, simultaneously. They were absolutely terrified.

A member of staff gently took them out of the room and brought them back to watch through the window. Even then, the fear was overwhelming. But over the following weeks, we began building their confidence—one tiny step at a time.

They started by observing from a safe distance, slowly learning the rhythm and routine of Boogie Beat Music & Movement. I always greeted them by name, offered them the chance to join in, and sometimes carried an instrument over to where they were sitting. Gradually, they held instruments from afar, then from a little closer, until the familiar structure of the session became something they could predict. That predictability made them feel safe and secure.

Now, when I walk into that nursery, these two girls are the first to zoom through the door—running straight up to me and Giggles with the biggest hugs and smiles. 💖
The transformation from fear to joy is nothing short of remarkable.

This beautiful journey happened because the nursery staff supported the girls to explore Boogie Beat in their own time and space—and because I remained consistent, always offering opportunities to join in rather than assuming they wouldn’t.

It’s such a powerful reminder that children develop confidence in their own way. With patience, repetition, and gentle encouragement, even the most anxious child can move from fear to fun. 🌈

At Boogie Beat Edinburgh, Mid and East Lothian, we see this kind of progress every day. Our fun, story-based sessions help children build confidence, communication, social skills and emotional security—all through the magic of music and movement. 🎶
