At the start of 2024, I made a commitment that Boogie Beat wouldn’t just be a business that brings joy through music and movement — but also one that actively gives something back.
Even though Boogie Beat is a franchise, one of the things I really value is that, as a local franchisee, I am able to choose how we live out our values locally. Supporting charities, families, and our wider community is a huge part of what Boogie Beat stands for — and I’m proud that here in Edinburgh, Mid & East Lothian, we put that into action.
My intention is simple: each year, Boogie Beat supports a chosen charity in a meaningful, consistent way.
So far, that journey has looked like this:
- 2024: Love from Jamie
- 2025: Team Jak
- 2026: Team Jak (and we’re continuing!)
How Our Fundraising Works
We keep our fundraising simple, transparent, and built into what we already do.
For every parent-paid ticket sold — whether that’s for:
- A community class
- An intergenerational session
- Or a bookable workshop
👉 20p goes directly to our chosen charity.
20p might not sound like much on its own — but across hundreds and hundreds of bookings, it really does add up.
And in 2025, those 20ps added up to an incredible £1,610 raised for Team Jak 💛
I am so proud of that figure — and so grateful to every single family who came along to a session and helped make that happen without having to do anything extra at all.
My hope is that in 2026 we can beat that total and raise even more.
2024: Love from Jamie – Supporting Families Through Loss
In 2024, we supported the remarkable charity Love from Jamie.
Love from Jamie was founded by Fiona and Martin after the heartbreaking loss of their son Jamie at just eight months old due to multiple illnesses. In the midst of their grief, they chose to channel their love into helping other families facing the unimaginable.
The charity supports families who have lost a child, often helping with things like funeral costs and memorials — practical support at a time when families are completely overwhelmed.
Thanks to the Boogie Beat community, we raised £1,500 in 2024, which helped support families including:
- A family new to the UK who lost their baby at just five days old and had no access to public funds
- A family needing support to erect headstones for three loved ones, including two children
- A single mum referred by social work who needed help to erect a headstone for her baby
It was an absolute honour to support Love from Jamie and to play a small part in the incredible work they do.
2025 & 2026: Team Jak – A Charity Close to Our Hearts
In 2025, we chose to support Team Jak — and we have decided to continue supporting them in 2026.
This is a charity that is deeply personal to our family.
A few years ago, my nephew was diagnosed with aplastic anaemia and went through an incredibly long and frightening journey that included a bone marrow transplant.
During that time, he was very, very ill.
He had a feeding tube.
He was on lots of medication.
He lost all his hair.
He was isolated, vulnerable, and exhausted.
And yet — in the middle of all of that — Team Jak brought light, play, and music into his world.
They supported him both at Edinburgh Sick Kids Hospital and in their play space in Livingston. They helped him access music therapy and play at a time when joy could so easily have disappeared.
And somehow, in the middle of all that illness, they helped instil in him a love of music that is still with him today.
That matters more than I can ever properly put into words.
Why Team Jak’s Work Aligns So Perfectly with Boogie Beat
Team Jak was founded by Allison Barr after the death of her son Jak in 2015. Jak was just 15 when he was diagnosed with an aggressive cancer, and even during his illness, he raised over £100,000 for others. The charity lives by his motto: “Bee Happy.”
Their Livingston centre offers:
- Play spaces for under-fives
- Teen zones
- Family spaces
- Counselling rooms
- Outdoor areas
- And crucially — a dedicated music therapy room
They believe, as we do, that play and music are not luxuries — they are essential, especially for children facing illness and trauma.
When children are that poorly, play isn’t just fun.
It’s healing. It’s regulating. It’s human.
Why We’re Continuing in 2026
We’re continuing to support Team Jak in 2026 because:
- They support children in our local community
- Their work makes a real, tangible difference
- Their values align so closely with everything Boogie Beat stands for
- And because I have seen, with my own eyes, the impact they have on a child and a family
And thanks to you — our wonderful Boogie Beat families — we’ve already shown what’s possible.
£1,610 in 2025.
Let’s see what we can do together in 2026 💛
Thank you for being part of a community that doesn’t just sing and dance — but also quietly, consistently, helps make the world a little bit kinder.
