Julie has been running her Boogie Beat franchise for eight years, and in that time she has brought music, movement and magic to hundreds of children in her local community. Before joining Boogie Beat, Julie spent 19 years working as a Nursery Manager – a role she loved, but one that had slowly changed over time.
“I found I was spending more and more time on paperwork and admin, and less time doing what I loved most – being with the children,” Julie explains. “I knew I needed a change, but I still wanted a career that kept me working with young children.”
That search led her to franchising, and eventually to Boogie Beat.
What stood out to Julie straight away was how different Boogie Beat felt from other opportunities she explored. “The lesson plans were more exciting, and I loved the traditional rhymes and stories,” she says. “It felt creative, fun and purposeful – exactly what I was looking for.”
Julie funded her franchise using her savings, and from the very start she felt confident and prepared thanks to the training and support she received. “The training from head office was very good,” she says. “I honestly don’t feel like there was anything I wish I’d known at the start, because I felt fully supported and ready to go.”
Eight years on, Julie still loves what she does. “I get to have fun every day while engaging with children and watching their confidence grow. That’s the most rewarding part of all,” she says.
Running her own business has also given her the flexibility she was missing before. “Being able to make my own decisions and have flexible hours has made such a difference to my work-life balance,” Julie explains. “It’s one of the best things about running my own franchise.”
Julie currently runs around 10 sessions per week in the mornings and works as a nanny every afternoon. Julie also offers Christmas parties, end-of-term celebrations and birthday parties, which provide valuable extra income. Looking ahead, her plans are simple but powerful: to continue building strong relationships with the settings she already visits and to keep delivering the Boogie Beat experience she’s known for.
“In three years’ time, I see my business much the same as it is now – 10 sessions a week, parties throughout the year, and continuing to do what I love,” she says.
And would she recommend franchising to others? “Definitely,” Julie says without hesitation.
Julie’s story is a wonderful example of how Boogie Beat allows experienced childcare professionals to take control of their careers, enjoy more flexibility, and still do what they love most – making a difference to children’s lives through music, movement and joy.
