At first glance, the idea of a Boogie Beat class ranging from six months to eight years old might sound impossible to some activity providers and some parents. Different ages, different stages, different interests – surely it wouldn’t work?
But today proved exactly why Boogie Beat is so special.
Due to polling day, some of our local schools were closed so we welcomed some older siblings attend our class alongside their younger brothers and sisters. Some of these children hadn’t been to Boogie Beat for a couple of years, having moved on to school life and no longer having regular access to the classes they once loved.
And yet, the moment they walked through the door, it was as though they had never been away.
There were huge smiles, high fives, cuddles, and excited faces everywhere. The children instantly remembered the songs, the actions, and the routines. They joined in confidently and naturally helped support the younger children around them too. Watching those sibling connections was incredibly heartwarming.
It reminded us of something really important – Boogie Beat doesn’t lose its magic as children get older.
In fact, for many children, it becomes even more meaningful.
The Power of Imagination Never Disappears
Our story today was Little Red Riding Hood, and it completely captured every child’s imagination, no matter their age.
Some children wanted to be the wolf, proudly showing off their “big shiny teeth” with huge grins across their faces. Others skipped through the woods as Little Red Riding Hood. From the tiniest toddlers to the oldest children in the room, every single one was engaged in the storytelling.
That’s the beauty of traditional stories.
They spark creativity.
They build confidence.
They bring children together.
And perhaps most importantly, they allow children to stay children for just a little bit longer.
Watching all those smiling faces looking up during story time today truly felt magical.
Older Children Still Need Play
One thing today really highlighted is how quickly opportunities for imaginative play can disappear once children start school.
As children get older, many structured activities become more performance-based, competitive, or screen-focused. But Boogie Beat offers something different; a chance to move, imagine, connect, laugh, and simply enjoy being part of something joyful.
Today, the older children naturally encouraged the younger ones. They shared, took turns beautifully with the big ball, made new friendships, and helped lead the imagination within the story.
The kindness and patience they showed was wonderful to watch.
Then came the moment that melted all our hearts…
“Is the Parachute Coming Out Today?”
The parachute wasn’t originally planned for today’s session.
But near the end of class, one of the older children looked at me hopefully and asked:
“Is the parachute coming out today?”
He remembered exactly when it usually appeared in class all those years ago.
When I asked if he’d like it to come out, his whole face lit up.
“Yes please!”
And honestly, that moment said everything.
Sometimes we assume children have outgrown experiences like this. But the truth is, they haven’t. They simply haven’t had access to them anymore.
The excitement, nostalgia, and pure happiness the parachute brought to those older children today was so special to witness.
Why Boogie Beat All Stars Matters
Experiences like today are exactly why the launch of Boogie Beat All Stars feels like such an important and positive step forward.
Our new after-school club launching this year will help bridge that gap for older children who still love Boogie Beat and everything it offers.
Alongside this, our Saturday classes around the country are already proving hugely popular because they welcome all ages, meaning school-aged siblings can once again join in the fun. Our holiday and pop-up sessions also continue to welcome older children too.
And after today, we know without a doubt that this additional direction for Boogie Beat is a great one.
Because Boogie Beat has never just been about music and movement.
It’s about connection.
It’s about imagination.
It’s about confidence.
It’s about joy.
Most of all, it’s about creating magical memories that stay with children long after they’ve grown.
Today’s session was full of smiles, laughter, storytelling, teamwork, and kindness from children of every age.
And that is exactly what Boogie Beat is all about.
